Etc/GMT-5

Tripoli Minnesota Club Launch, held the Second Saturday of the month at our field North East of North Branch MN. Setup starts at around 8:00 AM and first flights at 9:00 AM. We fly until everyone is exhausted, usually about 4:00 PM.

Tripoli Minnesota High Power Rocketry Club

We launch many rockets of all sizes from small models to the obscenely large. Some are 20 feet or more tall. Rocketry is truly a family activity for all ages. Kids (and those young at heart) are welcome to come launch on our 12 low powered launch pads, while the adults get to play with the really big and beautiful high powered birds on our 6 high power pads.

Even if you just come to watch, rocketry can be fun and even a little educational. Youth groups are welcome, but a little advanced notice is always appreciated.

Bring your sunscreen and lots to drink (no alcohol please). Come early as parking will be at a premium. There is no charge for spectators or those under 18 launching low powered rockets. You must be a Tripoli Rocket Association (TRA), a Tripoli MN club member and over 18 to launch high power.

We usually have one or more rocket equipment vendors (www.offwegorocketry.com - www.rocket-technologies.com ) and sanitary facilities available at each launch.
We also have Brian's Brats, chicken, hot dogs, chips and pop for a nominal (and quite reasonable) charge.

Setup starts at around 8:00 AM and first flights at 9:00 AM. Please consider arriving early to set up and/or staying late for clean up.

Launch Report from August 14th 2010: Commercial Club Launch Day

BAD BEE-HAVIORsBAD BEE-HAVIORs

Another great Summer day at the Launch Pads...
It was a little warm and we had a few stubborn rockets that just did not want to be found (quickly), but still a great day!

The high flyer for the day...
BADDER BEE-HAVIOR is an exact 2X of one of Steve Anderson's favorite rocket; BAD BEE-HAVIOR. BADDER BEE-HAVIOR is a 6" diameter scratch build using Hawk Mountain tubing. 116" tall, 47 lbs loaded weight. A three CTI L-730 motor cluster which equates to 81% of a full M. Altitude was 12,624' AGL. Recovery SUCKED!!! In a swamp about 2 miles away from the launch pad, lots of thistle tearing up Bill's and Steve's legs, and areas of knee deep swamp water. Recovery duties were handled by a 42" Fruity Chute drogue chute and a 120" Fruity Chute main chute. Locating devices were a Communication Specialist locator and a Garmin Astro GPS unit. Steve also flew his BAD BEE-HAVIOR earlier in the day on a CTI J210 motor to about 7200' ft AGL.

There were several Certification Flights (that will be reported "here" in more detail shortly), along with many more flights of sizes.

Hope to see everyone next month. cz

Big Yeller: Largest Amateur Rocket in Minnesota

Tripoli MN hosted an experimental launch on 5/24/09 where they attempted to fly the largest amateur rocket ever launched in Minnesota. The rocket weighed in at 180 lbs and was supposed to go to 14,000-16,000 feet but only made it to about 8,000 feet because of some drag on the launch pad at liftoff. But it was a picture perfect launch and a perfect day, and lots of spectators turned up for the event.
